One of the main tasks on the construction site I frequent is excavator work within a completed foundation. While it may not always be necessary to work within a foundation, modern technology allows us to easily accommodate it in our schedule. The crane we use is a 25-ton Grove, capable of reaching almost 50 feet with the Kobelco 35 SR attached. However, we usually keep the crane closer to the work area for efficiency. The series of photos documents the process of hoisting the excavator out of the foundation.
The 3-legged sling was expertly constructed in compliance with the specifications outlined in the excavator's manual. Lifting points are available at both ends of the dozer blade as well as on the top of the boom for safe and efficient operation.
In cramped spaces, we typically use a ground line or two for lifting purposes. However, on this particular day, we found ourselves operating in a large, open area.
Preparing for a smooth landing without any cribbing underneath the crane outriggers. The ground is an old slag dump, known for its hard surfaces that even large excavators struggle to penetrate. This eliminates the concern of outriggers sinking, unlike when setting up on soft dirt.
