Recently, a CAT technician came out to service one of the trucks and accidentally installed the mirrors upside down.
The number 345 appears diminutive when compared to 385 nearby.
My crew, my pickup truck, and the breathtaking vista from the summit.
Amazing images, the 385 photo is absolutely fantastic!
Experience more of the 85 because it's a favorite among everyone.
Are you in the blasting industry? Which company do you represent? If you prefer, feel free to send me a private message with that information. I've heard the 385 machine is amazing—I dream of operating one! Even a few hours on a 345 LME gets me excited. How well do the teeth hold up when working with granite?
While I may not be a blaster, I am currently assisting in that area to stay productive at work, as per the office's request. I am employed by Simard-Beaudry Construction Inc in Laval, Quebec. I initially joined the team managing various aspects of a large project upon my relocation, including overseeing subcontractors. I have now taken on the task of coordinating blasting activities for a smaller project closer to home, with the support of my supervisor. I use a topcon for layout work, marking out holes and overseeing operations in the afternoons. Our fleet includes trucks, such as the 385, although they belong to another company. I have established good working relationships with the employees from that company, making it feel like we are all colleagues. When I was assigned this new role, I requested a truck, which was granted. Not a bad outcome for a 21-year-old, right? haha.
The durability of teeth may vary, with decay noticeable on the first bench but likely to improve on the second.
Just added some fresh images to the collection!

A Cat D8T operator mentioned that while they are not a blaster, they are assisting with the job to stay busy as per the office's request. They work for Simard-Beaudry Construction Inc in Laval, Quebec. Starting off by running various aspects of a significant project and working with subcontractors, they now handle layout using topcon equipment and supervise blasting operations. With a job close to home and the support of their supervisor, they enjoy the task of laying out holes and operating the 85 in the afternoon. Despite not owning the trucks, they have a good working relationship with the team from another company. At just 21 years old, they humorously acknowledge their luck in securing such responsibilities. The original quote "not bad for being 21 hahaha!!!" highlights the excitement and gratitude for the opportunities at a young age. A commenter in their forties admires the young individual for achieving a dream job they have cherished for two decades, expressing admiration and well-wishes.
I have some amazing photos from my past blasting adventures, which were mostly a lot of fun. However, one incident stands out as the scariest. An individual negligently set off a tube of Toxex on the ground while I was operating a T-600 Vermeer machine. Shortly after, a gunship was seen circling the area, eventually leading to the arrival of air police with many questions. The individual responsible was apprehended at gunpoint, and the job had to be shut down for a week. This incident occurred only 500 yards away from a Titan II missile silo, adding to the intensity of the situation.
I have had great experiences with the 770 machines on the job, as they run smoothly and have not had any breakdowns so far. Despite not being able to capture the moment, I vividly recall a tunnel job where multiple 770 machines were passing each other while I was operating the 988 loader, although photography was restricted due to high security measures. While I enjoy blasting, my true passion lies in operating equipment. I am hopeful for future job opportunities once this project concludes, as things have been a bit quiet lately. Surprisingly, I have not encountered any dynamite mishaps yet, but if I do, I'll be sure to document it - assuming I still have my arms, that is!
Comparing the power of the moremore 385 series to the newer models, it is evident that the former stands out. When the 345 model fails, they resort to creating a subpar 365 model from a 330 base, while the 235 model remains the driving force behind the hammer.
The sum of 330 and 235 equals a less than satisfactory total of 365.
Looking for explosives? A truck carrying explosives arrived today.
A user named catd8t shared that a new truck arrived today, prompting humor about it being a non-smoking area. With such a large amount of stockpiled firepower, it raises the question of whether there is an armed guard or if it is secured in a bunker. Additionally, there is a missing door on the 385. As always, great photos are included in the post.
We have approximately two weeks left with our current supply. Unfortunately, the job will come to a close once it runs out. It's quite the sight without a door, adding a sexy touch to the space. However, the door swung open unexpectedly one day, causing significant damage. While it has been repaired, there hasn't been a chance to reinstall it properly yet. Stay tuned for a video update this weekend when I have a moment to share.

On my final day off before starting my new job, I wanted to have one last hurrah before leaving. Unfortunately, the doctor's appointment got in the way of me getting the video I wanted.
Last week, I had the opportunity to operate a powerful gem of a Cat loader while working for my uncle's company. Initially, I was skeptical about the task of loading trucks all day, but to my surprise, I not only managed to last the day but also found satisfaction in the job. This experience made me appreciate why Cat loaders have such a stellar reputation. The loader even came equipped with a convenient side dump bucket, which made the job even easier.
One of the great things about Cat loaders is their durability. Even after 25 years, you may find a Cat machine with tires that are weather-checked but not worn out. These machines are built tough and can handle heavy workloads without losing their strength over time.
I wouldn't exchange a brand new loader for that item.
dayexco pointed out the impressive durability of CAT loaders, highlighting how even after 25 years, the tires are only weather-checked and not worn out. They jokingly mentioned not having enough power to spin them, a comment that could easily start a riot. It's all in good fun, though!
Cat lovers abound in this place.
Is that a classic 950 straight frame loader? I used to operate a powerful 966C loader, which was capable of impressive feats like climbing out of deep sub cuts with straight walls. Caterpillar loaders have truly earned their stellar reputation as the top choice in the industry. I've tested out Volvo and Deere loaders, but they just didn't compare - Caterpillar loaders are truly in a league of their own. When it comes to excavators, I have experience with Deere, Komatsu, and Caterpillar, and they each excel in different ways. As for rock trucks, I have a preference for Volvo models. This summer, I had the chance to try out a John Deere 750 dozer and was thoroughly impressed with its performance.
I have experience operating a Volvo loader, which I find efficient and powerful when in use. However, it has a tendency to experience major issues when it breaks down. In particular, the loader's hydraulic system seems weak and could possibly benefit from a tune-up. Despite its quirks, the loader is reliable for handling large piles of materials. It seems that when a replacement loader is readily available, the Volvo loader is sidelined, but it still gets the job done when called upon for temporary fill-in work.
I am impressed by the beautiful work pictures you have shared. I aspire for my work to reach that level of excellence.
Change is inevitable, and I vividly recall my first encounter with a 385 engine. I was amazed by its size and power. Now, 385 engines are a common sight, sparking my desire for bigger challenges. While I enjoy operating machinery, I am easily bored and crave variety in my job. While I appreciate operating, I cannot imagine spending the rest of my life confined to trucks - I would go insane.
I prefer the reliability and charm of older Cat loaders over the newer models from Deere, Volvo, or Komatsu any day.
I finally acquired a professional camera and captured some images of the equipment utilized during our plowing activities, including my 770 ch snowplow.

Hello Graham, Thank you for sharing those great pictures of the county. Any chance you have more pictures to share? I would love to see more. Thanks! Cheers! - Graham
This year, I operated a 930H loader equipped with a spring-loaded snow blade, similar to the ones in your photos but without a wing. It was exhilarating, operating in fourth gear all day long. One could easily go through two tanks of fuel in just 12 hours if pushing limits. However, one had to be careful of hidden hazards like manholes.
I accidentally hit a manhole cover with the grader's mulboard - it brought me to a sudden stop and I felt a jolt in my ribs as they hit the steering wheel. Despite the mishap, I genuinely enjoy operating the 950g blade. It's my go-to when there's not too much snow, and it offers a faster pace compared to the grader as I work on my designated section.
catd8t mentioned that they are currently working on a project where they are excavating a 55-foot cut in deteriorating granite. The equipment, a B model, is in decent condition despite some wear and tear from previous jobs. The operators have been switching machines regularly, resulting in a few scratches here and there, but this particular one is running the best out of the four machines being used. The 770 models are highly regarded, with their ability to turn on a dime and retain their mirrors better than the 730s. However, they are quite noisy – both inside and out. It is worth noting that the term "rotten granite" may seem misleading, as rocks do not actually rot. In this context, it likely means that the granite is loose and unstable.
Wolf inquired about the term "granite is rotten" and expressed confusion about how rock can decay. He wondered if it meant the granite was loose and unstable. However, the phrase simply indicates that the granite is cracked, which is common in the area. While it may be challenging to dig through, it is typically not excessively loose.
Wolf inquired about the meaning behind describing the granite as "rotten." It may seem confusing how rock can rot, but in this case, it refers to the soft and poor quality of the rock in the area due to the presence of asbestos mines. This rock is not suitable for making gravel or any other use, except for fill. The better quality rock was found beyond the first bench on the front side of the job site. Even on the back side on the second bench, where blasting occurred, it would easily turn into 3/4 gravel. The team was able to drop 30,000 tons a day, with the hard side being loaded out by the 385 in just one day, while the soft side required the 345 to load it out in a day and a half. This resulted in a lot of debris being released during the process.
Geologists refer to it as "incompetent rock formations," while drillers regard it as deteriorated.
Hello catd8t, it's great to connect with a fellow member of the F.T.Q. 791. Your photos are absolutely stunning!
Upon returning to the United States, I am still holding onto my options. I am eager to revisit that destination in the future.
Today, while driving back from the wilderness, I came across a Kenworth truck which had lost control halfway up a hill on Hay Stack Road north of Fort St. John. The truck, which was not equipped with chains, slid down the hill and ended up on its side. Thankfully, the driver emerged unscathed from the incident.
My thread was taken over by someone else, but stay tuned for new pictures and videos coming soon. Apologies for the delay - it's been a while since the last update.
