Is the 1972 Michigan 85 with Detroit Diesel Engine Worth Buying for $8000?

Question:

Hello everyone, I am a newcomer to this forum. I recently came across a 1972 Michigan 85 with a Detroit diesel engine for sale in my local area. The tires are in great condition, but the number of hours on the machine is unknown. The seller is asking for $8000 Canadian dollars for it, and I am wondering if this is a reasonable price. Additionally, I am curious about the reliability of these loaders as I have not been able to find much information online. The price seems fair as long as all components are functioning properly, but keep in mind it's not a Model 85 loader. Based on its features, it appears to be a 125B loader with a V6 Detroit engine. These loaders were highly efficient during their time in operation. However, there were occasional issues with the brakes that may need attention.

Welder Dave observed that the loader being discussed seems to be a 125B with a V6 Detroit motor, instead of a model 85. He noted that the 125B loaders were reliable in their prime, although there were occasional brake issues. The asker inquired further about the differences between the two models, indicating a desire to learn more about construction equipment specifications.

The 1974 Michigan 125B listed for sale is considered an older model with the potential for vintage charm. Check out this classic construction equipment on MachineryTrader.com!

We owned both a 75 and a 125 loader, and the 125 appeared to be the more powerful option. The 125 loader was a reliable piece of equipment, but it was important to wear ear plugs due to its noise level.

Thank you for responding. It seems that the vehicle may have been recently repainted with the number 85. According to the seller, it is in excellent condition, without any leaks or oil burning issues. I am currently working out of town but plan to inspect it in person within the next few weeks if it is still available.
