Latest Dual Motor Brush Cutter for Land Clearing: Bobcat Brushcat vs. CID Extreme Mower

Question:

Is anyone using one of the latest dual motor brush cutters? I was initially interested in a 72" CID extreme mower with an open front, but came across a newer 72" standard flow brush cutter at a great price. These brush cutters feature a floating deck, dual motors, and a rear roller, providing excellent mowing performance. However, I am curious about their capability to handle small trees, saplings, bushes, and other brush. While they excel on uneven grassy terrain, I wonder how they perform in land clearing scenarios beyond just mowing. I do not plan on using it as a mulcher, but I want to ensure it can handle 3-4" trees when approached slowly and methodically. I will be using it with a Takeuchi TL230 standard flow, having previously used an ammbusher mower with good results but now looking to have my own equipment rather than borrowing or renting.

After witnessing the impressive dual motor mechanism in action, I can't help but wonder about the potential increase in cost. Could you please share the prices for both versions? If you're interested in trying it out, the bobcat dealer offers rentals for the dual motor model for a day. Given your experience with the ammbusher, your feedback after the trial would be greatly appreciated.

Digger Doug expressed his curiosity about the added costs of the extra mechanism in the equipment. Could you please provide the prices for comparison? The Bobcat dealer offers the option to rent the dual motor version for a day, and since you already have experience with the Ammbusher, your feedback after the trials would be valuable. I will need to look up the quote for the CID mower I purchased, which I believe is one model below their extreme mower. It was slightly cheaper than a 1-1.5-year-old Brush Cat with front rollers and an extra set of blades that seems lightly used. I should have pictures by the end of this week to confirm. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test both machines for a few months, as everything is currently frozen and inactive here.

After using the brush cutter, I found that while it excels at mowing established pastures, it struggles with heavier brush. One limitation is its inability to adjust the angle to tackle thicker vegetation effectively. Additionally, the mower's weight makes it challenging to maneuver. The rollers can also push dirt, especially in loose or sandy soil, flattening smaller brush instead of cutting it close to the ground like an open-front mower would. Despite these drawbacks, CID produces high-quality mowers. I personally own one with approximately 600 hours of use, and it has not experienced any issues. I even use it for tasks that may be pushing its limits. It belongs to the older extreme model line, which features a non-direct drive system.

In a conversation with Todd, he shared his experience using the brush cat for mowing and maintaining established pastures. While it performs well in these areas, Todd noted that it struggles with heavier brush. The inability to angle the mower to lift the front and tackle thicker vegetation, its weight, and the issue of the rollers pushing dirt in loose or sandy conditions were highlighted. Todd also praised CID for their reliable mowers, mentioning his own with 600 hours of use without any problems. However, he indicated that the older extreme model he owns is not direct drive. This feedback from Todd is valuable for those considering a brush cutter that can handle more than just pastures and overgrown fields.

I own a powerful Diamond 72" mower that is unmatched in performance. It excels in cutting and grinding, rivaling a mulcher in efficiency and outperforming it in certain tasks. In fact, I also have two mulchers in my collection.
