As a skilled journeyman, my primary role revolves around working as a mechanic 95% of the time. I also handle tasks involving our fuel truck, mill, and scraper as required.

I estimate that Local 103 pays around $28-29 per hour, although it's been a while since I've worked in that sector. Pipeline work is where I feel most at home, and typically pays around $35+ per hour, depending on the location. Currently, my job in Louisiana is offering $36/hour for a 14-month pipeline project. The small company I work for values long hours - we worked without a single day off from July 9th to December 14th in 2007, averaging 100 hours per week. We never worked less than 90 hours, and sometimes even exceeded 100 hours. One week, we clocked in at 168 hours - that's around-the-clock work for 7 days straight. And to top it off, one of those days was Thanksgiving, meaning double time pay. It's a shame that pipeline work doesn't offer triple time in their contracts. However, I can't complain - I earn decent money, receive a truck allowance, and have my fuel covered.
