I was approached by a local logger for potential winter work operating one of his machines, specifically his new 1110e. As someone who typically operates hoes and dozers during the summer, I am familiar with the standard control setup for forestry equipment, where the main boom is controlled with the left hand and the stick with the right. However, since the E series machines offer customization options, I am curious if there is a way to adjust the controls on the computer to mimic that of an excavator without needing to switch hoses or make physical changes. Thank you for any insight you can provide.
At a recent convention, I observed that European operators use different control systems compared to North American operators. While testing out their simulation games for forwarders and truck loaders, I found it easy to pick up on the controls, despite struggling with depth perception. Unfortunately, I also ended up with pond water in my ear, which may be leading to an ear infection. Frustrating!
During a recent visit to a con-expo booth, I noticed that Europeans operate their machinery with different controls compared to us in North America. Although I had never operated a forwarder or a truck loader before, I found it relatively easy to pick up the controls when playing with their simulators. The biggest challenge for me was adjusting to the lack of depth perception. Unfortunately, I also managed to get pond water in my ear, which may be leading to an ear infection – frustrating, to say the least. Interestingly, if you're familiar with operating an excavator, you'll find it quite easy to adapt to the controls of a forwarder. It's surprising to hear that non-European machines have different controls. In Norway and Sweden, for instance, the right hand joystick controls the boom up/down, back/forward, rotator right/left, and grip open/close. Meanwhile, the left handle manages stick up/down, crane swing (left/right), and telescoping.
