This post is not one that I ever wanted to have to write, but I feel it is crucial to raise awareness about the recent tragic incident. A fatality occurred on Tuesday involving our new Skagit 737 during a logging operation. The Chaser was spooling the main line when either the extension I or the extension shackle got stuck in the brush. In an attempt to free the line, the Chaser asked the yarder engineer to increase throttle while still spooling. Unfortunately, a sudden release caused the line to whip violently, throwing Robbie off balance. In trying to regain his balance, he accidentally stepped into the drum and was pulled through, resulting in a tragic accident. Despite the quick response of myself, the fire chief, and the aide Lieutenant, the outcome was devastating. Robbie, with 28 years of experience as a Chaser, was known for his safety record and positive attitude. Labor & Industries conducted a fatality analysis and praised the yarder's safety features, noting it as one of the best they have seen with all required guarding and more. I urge everyone to take a moment to review proper spooling techniques with your employees and assess the safety measures on your yarders. It is crucial to take every precaution possible to prevent such accidents from occurring again. Stay safe and prioritize safety in all logging operations.
I express my heartfelt condolences to you, the family of the man, and your team. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder that despite doing everything correctly, a single moment can undo it all. Please know that my thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
I want to express my gratitude to Mitch.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of this man, as well as to you and your team during this difficult time. Though no words can fully alleviate the pain of loss.
Sending thoughts and prayers to you, your team, and Robbie's loved ones. Crew members often become like family, so both the accident and the tragic loss will undoubtedly weigh heavy on everyone involved.
I am sorry to hear about this very unfortunate and saddening situation.
