Troubleshooting Bobcat T-190 Parking Brake Lockups: Engine Speed Sensor Issue?

Question:

Is your 2001 T-190 experiencing random parking brake lockups while driving? The traction light turns off when applied, then turns on and releases for a brief period. Could this issue be related to the engine speed sensor?

Top Replies

Of course!

Are there other mechanisms that trigger the brakes to engage? Is there a method to bypass the parking brake in order to relocate the skidder for maintenance purposes? Thank you.

If the controller fails to detect an engine speed signal, the brake will remain locked. Additionally, an intermittent signal can cause the brake to lock and unlock. The first step to address this issue is to remove, clean, and reinstall the speed sensor. Over time, the sensor can become dirty or damaged. When reinstalling the sensor, loosen the jam nut, screw the sensor in manually until it touches the flywheel, then slightly loosen it by 1/8 or 1/4 turn before tightening the jam nut. Using a porta-power to disconnect hoses from the brake valve may be necessary to release the brakes, although this may not result in easy rolling. A quick method to test the speed sensor is available but requires a $1000 Bobcat remote start box and Bobcat service analyzer.
